Which assets need to go through Probate?

Probate is necessary for assets solely in the deceased's name that do not automatically transfer to another party. Examples include individual bank accounts, cars, and investments. Jointly held assets with Rights of Survivorship, and assets with designated beneficiaries (e.g., life insurance policies) bypass probate. Assets held in a Trust also avoid probate.
